When Girlawhirl's stuck in the city on a summer weekend, the last thing she wants is to have the city smells: melting asphalt, car exhaust, and air conditioning byproducts, wafting up and into her open windows. If she can't be on vacation every weekend, she can at least create her own version of a cabana-chic in her very own apartment…
And while that might mean a few white slipcovers, colorful pillows and some mixers to whip up fresh fruity drinks that end with an –ini, ita or ito – it also includes just the right scented candles to evoke the smells of vacations past, present and future. For that, she's got Jonathan Adler to thank because his new crop of candles has hit her summertime sweet spot.
There's citrusy Capri, which starts out light and bright, full of the promise of sunshine and lemons, and just like the perfect day on the beach, ends with wood, moss and musk. Bel Air is sophisticated but still sweet with black currant, plum and fig balanced with sage, cardamom, vetiver and patchouli. And Aix en Provence evokes a moment in Provencal time with lavender offset by fruity pear and orange and smooth white amber and musk.
