Maybe it's because last Earth Day was last week, but Girlawhirl's recently noticed many home accessories taking on more natural forms. And more often than not, it's wood or the look of wood that's being incorporated into these items. She can't deny that adding some natural elements to the more typically modern interior of her apartment warms up the place, but it's the chic glass cutting board that looks like wood that she loves the most... • Girlawhirl's not the only one mixing in a touch of wood with her modern décor. Jonathan Adler's just introduced wooden accents with a bit of a nautical touch. There's a mirror, a table lamp and wall sconces.
• Beautifully sculptural carved wood candlesticks somehow fit into Girlawhirl's modern décor. Perhaps it's the lighter color of the blonde wood that keeps them fresh.

• These coasters look like cross sections of tree trunks – complete with bark edges – and that's pretty much what they are: slices of cork branches, just waiting for a glass to be perched on top.

• To set a rustic table, Girlawhirl can start with these placemats that look like weathered planks of wood. Truth be told, they're made of sponge rubber with a polyester face, so they work outside just as well as in.

• A lacquered pepper mill makes not just a lovely table topper but a great gift as well. Girlawhirl loves the colorful variety, from hot red, to sunny yellow, bright cobalt blue and classic chocolate brown.

• And by far, Girlawhirl's favorite wood grain item is the cool glass cutting board that she's added to her kitchen. Of course she can chop on it, but she can also use it as a cheese board when guests come over.
