A royal tour is on a super pal's London agenda as she checks out the Clarence House
Jul 16, 2007
While sipping an iced latte at her favorite coffee shop the other day, pausing just for a second to cool off on a hot day of errand-running, Girlawhirl overheard something that made her grab her phone and dial a Super Pal so quickly she almost spilled her drink. She wasn't eavesdropping, but the women next to her were recounting last summer's holiday to London. What could it have been that sent her into such a tizzy? Something only a truly obsessed Super Pal would understand…

Girlawhirl knows obsession, she certainly has a few of her own, but one Super Pal in particular takes the cake where die-hard obsession is concerned. Her fixation of choice: royalty! Every European vacation Girlawhirl lovingly endures with her fanatic Super Pal follows the same formula – castle tour, castle tour, royal hunting followed by yet another castle tour. Sometimes it reminds Girlawhirl of bad high school class trips. Not that Girlawhirl doesn't love to see things that glitter too – she does – but her Super Pal takes it to a whole new level. So when Girlawhirl heard Prince Charles opens the home he shares with wife Camilla to the public for a couple of months each year, she knew her pal would pounce.

Everyone has a chance to see the London residence of Prince Charles, known as Clarence House. It's located right next to St. James Palace – the two royal residences share a garden. The home was built for King William IV around 1825 and was formerly occupied by Queen Elizabeth's mother from 1955 until her death in 2002.

Today visitors can tour five rooms on the ground floor of the Prince of Wale's headquarters, featuring the historic furnishings and styling it had while home to the Queen Mum. And her majesty's exquisite art collection is on display in every room. Girlawhirl warned her Pal if she wanted to see Clarence House she had to move fast. The house is open by appointment only – from August 1st to September 30th this year.

Appointments to see Clarence House can be booked online.
