Girlawhirl gets over her fear of flying germs with a little help from plane sheets Jan 22, 2007

Girlawhirl was recently on a short flight sitting near – thankfully not next to – someone who, to put it nicely, obviously hadn't showered that morning. Glad she wasn't actually sitting next to that person, Girlawhirl got to thinking that the person who had been in her seat on the previous flight could have been just as – er – unkempt. Which really got her going… A Super Pal had recently picked up a case of conjunctivitis after flying home from London, and while no one could be sure, her doctor did suggest that she could have easily picked it up on the plane. And Girlawhirl's seen firsthand, in the form of crumbs on her seat or trash in the seat pocket, that it isn't always possible to get the seats all cleaned in the short time between when a plane lands and then takes off again. Just the thought of leaning against one of those little headrest protectors, knowing that it probably hasn't been changed since – she can only imagine – can keep her from leaning back all the way from Chicago to Los Angeles.
But the skies just got a little more comfortable for Girlawhirl and all the other germaphobes out there thanks to Plane Sheets. They're like upholstery for an airplane seat, and Girlawhirl has stocked up. When she gets on the plane, all she needs to do is secure the top of the Plane Sheet to the top of the seat and tuck in the sides. Her seatbelt functions normally, and now she can finally rest her head back against the headrest. And when she's lucky enough to get upgraded, there are even Plane Sheets for first and business class sized seats.
Girlawhirl prefers the more compact disposable Plane Sheets, which she can use a couple of times before recycling.
Plane Sheets are the brainchild of Leslie and Rick Berge who were inspired by their long distance relationship and all the air travel that came with it. They were struck by the idea that they could add a little pizzazz and comfort to their trips. So they bought some fabric and sewed their first Plane Sheets. When flight attendants, pilots and other passengers started asking where they could get them, they knew they were on to something.
And Girlawhirl couldn't agree more. She purchased her Plane Sheets online at planesheets.com Girlawhirl Giveaway! A set of Plane Sheets is part of this week's Girlawhirl Giveaway! You're already registered if you've signed up once and have a girlawhirl login. Not registered? Sign up.

But as a gift for a very stylish Super Pal who travels even more than she does, Girlawhirl bought a cool cheetah print Plane Sheet made from comfy chenille fabric that's washable. Her friend just washes it when she gets home from a trip and leaves it in her carry-on bag.
