As in life, with fashion, there is a always a distinction between the old guard and the new… and in the world of LA shopping, Robertson Blvd is the perfect example of the new—replacing Rodeo Drive as the ûber-cool-must-shop-and-be-seen/scene street... And what a scene it can be! Paparazzi stake out The Ivy, right in the middle of the strip, leaving their posts when a starlet shows up to shop. Recently, Girlawhirl was on the block when the original girl from the block, Jennifer Lopez, made an appearance wreaking havoc—photographers crowding around, fans swarming, store doors locking. At one store Girlawhirl was locked out, but in another she was locked in!
Celebrity distractions aside, shopping on Robertson really is as good as they say it is. Special pieces, beautiful jewelry, clothing that is ‘of the moment' or comfortable to excess, shoes, accessories, lotions, potions, and even home goods; the street has it all.
Kitson and Lisa Kline share star billing on this street and both live up to their reputations. Chan Luu is one of Girlawhirl's favorites. She has been a fan of their jewelry for years and she loves all the new accessories, especially this season's sequined and beaded belts. Belle Cosa is tiny but fun and Madison is another must-spend-time-in boutique. Harari, Scott Hill, Maxfield Bleu (where you never know what you'll find!) and even American Apparel are also on the street.
For a bit of Europe, there is the French shoemaker Robert Clergerie and agnés b. for sportswear. There are also the English lines Ted Baker, for classics with a sense of humor, and Ghost, for Girlawhirl's summer uniform: flowy and easy care dresses and other pieces.
Most of the shops carry bits and pieces of everything a girl needs, but Kalologie is a must for skin care items. They carry their own products formulated by the dermatologists whose offices are on site, as well as other lines. With a physician's assistant right there, it's easy to get just what you need.
Girlawhirl never misses this stretch of Robertson when she hits LA.
