Bainbridge Island is a short ferry ride from Seattle

Girlawhirl had to see Bainbridge Island, home to Dr. McDreamy. And so, she hopped on a ferry from Seattle and was on her way across Puget Sound. The ferry itself was no surprise; it was typical of those that carry cars and commuters all along the coasts. But no matter where she is, whenever she takes a ferry, Girlawhirl always finds herself enamored with the views…

And with Mt. Rainier to the southeast and the Olympic Mountains to the west of Bainbridge, there were gorgeous things to see all around. And the houses scattered about the island and the small harbor were full of charm. Downtown Bainbridge is just a quick walk from the ferry, and pretty soon, Girlawhirl found herself strolling on Winslow Way, making her way into shops, galleries, and cafes.

For a real meal, Café Nola is the place to go, but for a snack or a sweet treat and a cup of coffee there's the Blackbird Bakery or Mora Iced Creamery with 48 flavors of homemade ice cream.

Girlawhirl found great art in the galleries and fabulous ideas for her apartment in all of the home shops along Winslow Way. Bainbridge Arts & Crafts was more than a gallery; it had lots of small and affordable pieces along with a selection of jewelry and glass, all made by local artists. Port Madison Home had furniture made by local craftsmen, and Paraffine not only smelled great, but the candles in the shop were some of the most interesting that Girlawhirl's ever seen.
