In Chicago's Millennium Park, a colorful wall of ice that's 12 feet high and 95 feet long is on display as part of the Museum of Modern Ice Winter Celebration. Girlawhirl can't wait to check it out in person. It's the first time the work of Canadian artist Gordon Halloran has been exhibited in the United States, and there's also a painting on the ice rink near the wall… In the installation, titled Paintings Below Zero, Halloran uses ice as his medium. He's figured out how to color it, keep it frozen, transport it and pull it all together into installations. Instead of actually working with a block of ice that's 12 feet high and almost 100 feet long, Paintings Below Zero is made of many smaller, individual pieces of colored ice, that when combined, create the larger piece. And since each ice crystal is in itself a natural work of art, Girlawhirl's looking forward to seeing the exhibit both up close and from a distance.
It's all on display through February 29th, along with accompanying activities for kids and families in a heated tent. Find out more at The Museum of Modern Ice.
