Located inside the expansive, and extremely impressive, Hofburg Imperial Palace in the heart of Vienna is The Sisi Museum and Imperial suites (a.k.a. Kaiserappartements). The home of Austria's beloved Empress Elisabeth and her husband Hapsburg Emperor Franz Joseph is a “can't miss” in Girlawhirl's book whenever she's in the city.
Girlawhirl can purchase an audio tour to guide her through the royal bedrooms, dressing rooms, salons, dining rooms and even a replica of the royal railcar, or just wander from room to room through the exhibit and, if she's lucky, overhear a guided tour as she goes.
But there's so much more to the Hofburg Imperial Palace. She can also see the stunning white Lipizzan horses of the Spanish Riding School perform fantastic dressage routines. Girlawhirl had seen the performance once before, and all she can say is: spectacular. And it should be: The Spanish Riding School of Vienna has been at it for 430 years!
Her other favorite part of visiting Vienna with her Super Pal? Grabbing some traditional bratwurst from a corner vendor and relaxing in one of the many imperial parks surrounding the palace. People watching in any language is a real treat.
