Girlawhirl finds a huge waterfall outside of Québec
Nov 19, 2007

As a child, Girlawhirl couldn't get over Niagara Falls. Ever since she visited with her family years ago, she's been at once in drawn to and deeply in awe of the power of waterfalls. And recently she saw one bigger than Niagara Falls. Standing 98.5 feet higher than Niagara, the Falls in the Parc de la Chute-Montmorency outside of Québec City literally took her breath away...

Situated in a picturesque park, and with trails for hiking, Girlawhirl loved that she could spend some quality outdoor time so close to Québec City. And there were plenty of ways to enjoy the falls. A cable car takes visitors all the way up to Manoir Montmorency at the top, the former home of Prince Edward, Duke of Kent (who was father of Queen Victoria), which now contains both a museum and a restaurant with a terrace. It's all above the tree line, so there are spectacular views all around. From there Girlawhirl followed a short trail through the woods, leading to a suspension bridge that went right over the top of the falls!

With the pounding water below, it was an out of this world experience. Not one to miss and an opportunity for a little workout. Instead of taking the cable car back down, Girlawhirl hoofed it down 487 steps, with plenty of switchbacks, awesome views and places to stop along the way.

With year round activities Girlawhirl hopes she has an opportunity to see the falls during the winter, when frozen spray from the falls creates a giant cone that's called Sugarloaf – which people can sled on.
