Seeing RED

Used to wearing her heart on her sleeve, Girlawhirl can wear it all over now. Always a fan of red, Girlawhirl was dying to get her hands on the stylish new American Express RED card, especially after she found out about the new red plastic, and realized the card isn't about looking good. It's about feeling good…

The card is part of Product RED, a new initiative designed to generate money for the Global Fund to Fight Aids, Tuberculosis and Malaria in Africa. Naturally altruistic, Girlawhirl was immediately drawn to the idea. But her hopes of actually getting one of those RED AMEXs were dashed when she found out the card is only available in the UK. She was thrilled to find out, however, that she is still able to contribute to the project through its other very fashionable partners.

 

Launched by U2's Bono and Bobby Shriver, Product RED CEO and DATA (Debt, AIDS, Trade Africa) Chairman, Product RED has partnered with Converse, Gap and Giorgio Armani—in addition to American Express—to create special RED products. Armani sunglasses, Converse sneakers and Gap vintage T's will all boast the RED logo and a portion of the sales will go to the Global Fund.

 

Girlawhirl can't wait! Killer wraparound metal Emporio Armani sunglasses, cool Chuck Taylor® All Star® mudcloth sneakers from Converse and comfortable, stylish T's from Gap and (maybe, someday) an outrageously RED piece of plastic! Later this year Emporio Armani will launch a special RED capsule collection for men and women with clothing, accessories, fragrances and more.

 

Most of the cool gear is set to debut this spring (Gap products won't hit the US until Fall 2006) so Girlawhirl is keeping her eyes peeled for the RED logo.

 

But just to be sure she doesn't miss any of the limited edition items, Girlawhirl signed up for the RED Product waiting lists.
