Today marks the sixth anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks – a day that changed the world, and one Girlawhirl knows she will never forget. Girlawhirl was super busy all week in the tents and didn't get to participate in one of the groups completing the108 sun salutation cycle Yoga for Peace coordinated in 21 cities around the world. Instead she'll have to do them at home. But she is making sure to observe a moment of silence to honor everyone who lost their lives on that day…
While Girlawhirl won't be able to make it downtown to the memorial service being held at Zuccotti Park – near Ground Zero – to observe four moments of silence, she does plan on participating in those solemn moments no matter where she is. The first moment of silence will take place at exactly 8:46 a.m., the time the first plane hit the North Tower of the World Trade Center. Family members and city officials will gathered at the park to read aloud the 2,750 victim's names, only taking pause to observe the times the second plane hit the South Tower, and when each tower fell. And after dark, the “Tribute in Light” twin beams will return to the sky for one night only.
With the victims and families in her thoughts all day, Girlawhirl's also decided to do something a little more proactive by donating to a few of the many charities dedicated to honoring those who died, and supporting the family members left behind.
Girlawhirl picked the Twin Towers Orphan Fund, a charity that makes sure children who lost one or both parents on September 11th are taken care of with support to their education, health and welfare, to receive the lion share of her donation this year. The charity also extends to any child whose parent was taken from them in a terrorist attack past, present or future.

But with so many charities to choose from Girlawhirl thinks she will have to spread the love around a little bit.
