Girlawhirl loves her laptop. She thinks of it as her personal window to the world. With a few clicks she can find the answer to almost any perplexing question or visit any remote spot on earth. She truly views it as her most important educational resource. So when Girlawhirl heard that soon, for a limited time, she'll be able to spend very little money on a very special new laptop that gives an identical laptop to a child in a developing country, she made sure to mark her calendar and start spreading the word… Designed in the computer labs at MIT, the XO computer is the perfect solution to bring learning, creativity and technology to children in developing countries. In 2005, MIT Professor Nicholas Negroponte created One Laptop Per Child – a non-profit organization that makes and distributes these phenomenal little laptops. For only $200, Girlawhirl can have a laptop sent to a child in need right now. But from November 12 – November 26, by spending $399 she can get her hands on one of her own in addition to sending an XO off to a child!
The limited time program, called “Give 1 Get 1”, lets Girlawhirl share in the fun of having one of these special water and shock resistant laptops. The XO also features a high-resolution screen making it easy to read in both sunlight and low light and uses lower power consumption - just five to ten percent of the wattage of an average laptop. Plus Girlawhirl loves that the XO can run on solar energy or even good old fashioned elbow grease (translation: pull cords and hand cranks). And she digs that it uses rabbit ears to create a peer-to-peer network.
This is one laptop any child could appreciate, and Girlawhirl's glad she can send one off to someone who will really love it!
