Certain things just scream old-fashioned fun to Girlawhirl. Backyard barbeques, sparklers on the Fourth of July and yummy treats from the neighborhood bake sale all make the list. So when she heard about Share Our Strength's nationwide bake sale to help end childhood hunger, she could only think one thing: bring on the brownies, and cookies, and cakes… Share Our Strength's Great American Bake Sale wants Americans to help end childhood hunger in a very delicious way. So far, through its bake sales, Share Our Strength has raised nearly $4 million and helped children in 39 states and Washington D.C.
Girlawhirl's searching Share Our Strength's website to see if any bake sales are set up in her area. If not, she can start one herself – maybe with Super Pals, at her office or even online.
But buying or baking goods isn't the only way to help fight hunger. There are lots of ways Girlawhirl can participate in the push to end childhood hunger and provide “at-risk” children with nutritious meals during the summer and after school. If she doesn't have the time to start her own bake sale, and can't locate one in her area, Girlawhirl can donate directly to the effort through the Great American Bake Sale's website. Proceeds from the sale will also support Share Our Strength's chef-led nutrition education program Operation Frontline.
Or, if she's in the mood for a delicious, liquor infused, bundt cake for two, Girlawhirl can simply order a tasty treat from The Great Spirits Baking Company. During the month of July, it's donating 50% of online sales of its baked goods – like the Mocha Double Chocolate Chunk with Patrón XO Café Tequila Coffee Liqueur – to the campaign.
Registration for the Great American Bake Sale has been extended through August 8th. Click here to learn more about hosting and participating.
