At first Girlawhirl didn't ‘get' it. ‘To buy, just text 4321 to 55507,' was what the advertisement read. Could shopping be as simple as a text message? And if so how much trouble could this get her into? With PayPal Mobile the answers are ‘yes,' and ‘a lot.' But the whole idea was so techno-slick that Girlawhirl had to try it. She already had a PayPal account because so many of her usual cyber shops use it. Girlawhirl signed on to PayPal and updated her account to allow for mobile purchases. Part of that process included a PIN number that would keep each transaction secure. And then she was free to shop. A CD she wanted could be had with a quick text.
With her billing and shipping information safely stored in her PayPal Mobile account, the text message starts the process. Then she gets an automated call on her cell phone and authorizes the sale by punching in her PIN number. It's all done in less than a couple of minutes, and if she wants to see a receipt, all Girlawhirl has to do is log on to her PayPal account when she has a chance.
Now she makes a point to look for the ‘Text To Buy,' instructions on ads, and has noticed that a lot of CDs, DVDs and video games are set up for mobile purchases. But PayPal promises that shoes, clothing and makeup are on the way!
