Girlawhirl keeps her office look polished and professional even during the summer Apr 25, 2007

As the days grow longer and the temperature steadily rises, so too does Girlawhirl's excitement over the approach of summer. Weekends at the beach, warm evenings spent with friends around the patio table and – most importantly to her – new summer clothes! But no matter how much she loves her new halters and spaghetti strap knit tops, she knows they'll never see the bright florescent light of her office (at least not without a very tailored blazer on top). Unfortunately, not all of her employees – or even friends for that matter – have the same work vs. play wardrobe sense in the summer… When it's hot out, Girlawhirl finds people seem to let go of their stuffy work attire, which she is all for, but there is definitely a line that should not be crossed. Kate Lorenz of CareerBuilder.com takes the same stance as Girlawhirl, and adds a few pointers on what is and is not appropriate for the office during the summer season in her article: Rules for Summer Work Wear.
She says employees can never go wrong by using what managers and executives wear as a yardstick to measure their own choices by. And even if there is a relaxed dress code, you should make sure your appearance is always “polished”; i.e. pressed and presentable.
Lorenz also points out a thoughtless summer wardrobe might make employers and clients think you are a thoughtless worker. Most certainly something Girlawhirl wants to avoid!
