If Girlawhirl had the bank account, all of her Super Pals could expect an extreme Valentine tomorrow. That's because some of the most influential modern artists are putting their best red feet forward today and donating art to be auctioned off to support Product RED... (RED) creator Bono and artist Damien Hirst have teamed up with Sotheby?s and Gagosian Gallery to put together what is being called “the most significant charity auction of Contemporary Art ever. Featuring the works of contemporary artists like Jasper Johns, Takashi Murakami, Jeff Koons, Cecily Brown, and Hirst himself - among others - tomorrow's The (RED) Auction will raise money for the United Nations Foundation to support HIV/AIDS relief programs in Africa.
The red-themed works of art will be auctioned off at Sotheby's tomorrow and should raise substantial funds for the United Nation's Foundation. The contribution of Hirst's seven works alone should garner more than $9 million. That's just a little out of Girlawhirl's Valentine budget, but with so many other retailers - from The Gap to Apple - participating in the Project (RED) campaign, she certainly knows how to make a contribution.
